Discography
Thisisthefirstfulldiscographyofthepublishedrecordingsonwhich
ArthurRussellappearedasanoriginalartistorasamemberofaband
orstudiooutfit,aswellasreleaseswherehemadeanappearanceasan
instrumentalist,mixer,orguestsongwriter.Promotionalcopiesand
bootlegsarelistedonlywhentherecorddidn’treceiveacommercial
release,whileRussell’stwelve-inchdancereissuesandcompilation
appearancesaretoonumeroustolisthereintheirentirety.
Producersandremixersarereferencedwhentheirnameswerein-
cludedontheoriginalrelease,butdetailsofmusiciansandengineers
andsonglengthshavebeenomittedforconsistencyandbrevity.In
casesofmultipleissuesacrossformatandcountry,CDnumbering
systemsareusedinsteadofvinylnumberingsystems,whileoriginal
publishingagreementsarelistedinsteadoflicensingparties.Theuse
of“Side1”and“SideA”followsoriginalusage.
Thisdiscographyisprovisional,inpartbecausesomanyofRussell’s
recordingsexistonlyontape,andinpartbecausetheongoingexca-
vationofthearchivesmeansthatoldrecordingswillcontinuetobe
releasedafterthepublicationofthisbook.Otheranomaliesexist:for
example,threedifferentversionsofthetwelve-inchsingle“TellYou
(Today)” are in circulation, but inconsistent labeling makes them
difficulttodistinguishfromoneanother.Becauseofthefluctuating
natureofthemarket,noattempthasbeenmadetoindicatetheavail-
abilityofanyrecording.Finally,Ihavecorrectedapparentlyuninten-
tionalmistakes,suchasthemisspellingofnames.
