A NOTE ON KOREAN LANGUAGE CONVENTIONS
The romanization of Korean words and names in this book fol-
lows the McCune-Reischauer system except for a name whose personal or-
thography is publicly known. The transliteration of Korean names in the main
text, as well as in parenthetical citations, notes, and references, follows the
Korean way of writing surname and given name without a comma between
them.
