The idea for the Latino and Latin American theatre group residency at the
University of California's Humanities Research Institute originated during
Murray Krieger's visit to the School of Criticism and Theory at Dartmouth
in
1987.
Since then he has been a constant source of help and support. This
volume would not have been possible without him.
Mark Rose, Director of
UCHRI
guided, debated, and coexisted with us
during our residency, Fall
1990,
for which we are grateful. The staff at
UCHRI
did the possible and often the impossible to make our stay pleasant
and successful.
Nancy Millichap, of Dartmouth's Humanities Computing Center, was
invaluable in turning all our essays - themselves written in diverse com-
puter languages - into a manuscript. Gonzalo Lira, her student assistant,
was always available
to
help. Colleagues Laurence Davies, Susanne Zantop,
Marianne Hirsch, Annelise Orleck, and Silvia Spitta of Dartmouth College,
have been generous in their comments and advice.
Eric, Alexei, and Marina Manheimer-Taylor were a wonderful part of this
project from beginning
to
end.
Ken Wissoker, our editor at Duke University Press, has encouraged us
throughout this process.
We thank you all.
