Gay, Lesbian, and Queer Popular
Corey K. Creekmur and Alexander Doty
his bibliography collects lesbian, gay, and queer materials in popular culture (film,
television, video, photography, music, dance, fashion, drag, camp, etc.) and ex-
cludes most material more accurately classified as anthropology, history, sociology, liter-
ary criticism, psychology, etc., although these disciplinary boundaries are obviously
frequently blurred and crossed. Major general bibliographies include Wayne Dyne,
Homosexuality; A Research Guide (New York: Garland, 1987); Cal Gough and Ellen
Greenblatt, eds., Gay and Lesbian Library Service (Jefferson, N.C.: McFarland, 1990);
Dolores Maggiore, Lesbianism: An Annotated Bibliography and Guide
1976-1991 (Metuchen, N.J.: Scarecrow, 1992); and William Parker, Homosexuality: A
Selective Bibliography of over
Items (Metuchen, N.J.: Scarecrow, 1985); Homosex-
uality Bibliography, Second Supplement 1976-1982 (Metuchen, N.].: Scarecrow, 1985);
Homosexuality Bibliography; Supplement 1970-1975 (Metuchen, N.].: Scarecrow, 1977).
Although extensive, the following bibliography is of course not exhaustive. Especially
underrepresented here are the regular and often groundbreaking articles, reviews, and
interviews appearing in the lesbian, gay, and queer press, community newspapers, and
underground 'zines; such materials are rarely indexed and, unfortunately, remain difficult
to locate in even major research libraries. For access
primary source materials, see

Libraries (Toronto: Canadian Gay Archives, 1987).
